Williamsburg, Va.—Fire Marshal Elliott W. Jayne reports a loss of $12,477 for 1961, down more than $15,000 from 1960. There were 312 alarms received and 568 rescue calls, in which 528 patients received assistance.
Melbourne, Australia — Chief Officer W. T. Aldridge of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, reports tire greatest number of calls ever—18,225 with 8,835 fires. False alarms continue to plague the brigade with 2,422 received from street boxes, a decrease of 49, Hoax telephone alarms increased by 181 to a total of 916.
