American-La France Apparatus.

One of the handsomest and most elaborately got-up catalogues reccnlly issued is that of the American La France h ire Engine company, of Elmira, N. Y. In typography and illustrations it is a work of art. Its olive green cover is gay with parti colored lettering, red predominating, the centre being filled up with a white and red Maltese cross surrounded with twining hose in black, the white nozzles pointing left and right towards the cross medallion. The illustrations of the various pieces of apparatus turned ouf by this company arc of themselves enough to attract attention. They embrace everything from steam lire engines, and water towers to nozzles, one, showing the quick-raising aerial truck extended to its fullest capacity against the side of a building, with a man on each rung and the driver in his seat, is most artistic and attractive in its treatment. Not less to be admired is the frontispiece representing the Elmira shops and giving an idea of the enormous size of the plant and incidentally of the vast amount of business done and the work turned out every year by the AmericanLa France company. Independently of its value to those interested in, or concerned with the use of fire apparatus, this catalogue cannot but be valuable to machinists in general on account of the very lucid account of the construction of each piece of apparatus illustrated; It is full and complete and of every detail ample explanation has been furnished.
