Ahrens-Fox Pumping Engine at Baltimore
On this page appears an illustration of the test of the new Ahrens-Fox motor pumping engine for Baltimore County, Md., which took place recently in Baltimore. The engine cost $10,000 and is of the triple combination pattern and a duplicate of the machine which won all the honors at the chiefs’ convention in New York last September. A machine just like it has been bought for Baltimore city. John P. Ahrens, superintended the demonstration, which was witnessed by the county commission, and other Baltimore countians, a swell as members and officials of the Baltimore fire department. The engine threw an inch and three-quarters stream of water 200 feet in the air and about 300 feet horizontally, pumping at the rate of 700 gallons a minute. Later a more severe test was made, and the engine threw 875 srallons a minute. It will be put into commission at Mount Winans.
