The Municipal Civil Service Commission of New York City having decided to deny the application of the fire commissioner to increase from five feet and six inches to five feet and seven inches, the height requirements of candidates for appointment to the New York fire department, the influx of applications for the job of fireman in New York has reached an approximate number of 18,000.
