10 MEN PERISH IN 3-ALARM FIRE IN QUILTING FACTORY
Rapid Spread of Flames in Cotton Filled Room Cuts Off Escape—Plant Busy on U. S. Defense Orders
TEN men, employed at the plant of the New Haven Quilt and Pad Company, Franklin Street, New Haven, Conn., perished when a fire broke out in a cotton-filled room on the third floor of the three-story brick building on February 5. Three other employees were injured seriously when they jumped to safety, and fourteen others escaped with minor injuries. Assistant Chief Francis Spaine was painfully injured when he was struck by flying glass. Several other New Haven firemen were injured and suffered frostbite.
