PENSACOLA, Fla. – A 600-acre wildfire that started on land leased by a paper company on May 13 no longer threatens any structures and is 50 percent contained, reports the Associated Press. The land reportedly was covered with dry tree limbs and debris. Alabama crews had united their efforts with those of Florida firefighters on May 14 to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
A fire started by lightning on May 12 and involving 400 acres north of Jacksonville was burning out of control. Dry weather and an abundance of dead wood are contributing factors, according to officials.
大火did not damage any structures, and no injuries were reported. From January 1 through May 13, 186,567 acres had burned in 2,542 fires throughout the state, according to a Florida Division of Forestry spokesman. For additional information, go to http://flame.fl-dof.com.
