Three Alarm Fire in San Francisco Creates Thick Smoke Plume

San Francisco fire officials say a three-alarm fire that created a plume of thick, black smoke visible for miles was fueled by tires, cars and other toxins, reports kcra.com (http://bit.ly/1ecJaGz).

The fire at an auto body shop in the city’s Bayview district broke out a little before noon on Monday.

Fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge tells the San Francisco Chronicle more than 100 firefighters responded to the fire. Television news footage showed firefighters on ladders spraying the fire from above.

The building was a total loss, but Talmadge says crews were able to prevent a propane tank outside the building from exploding.
