Resident, Firefighter Injured in Two-Alarm Hackensack (NJ) Fire

A two-alarm fire in Hackensack left a resident and a firefighter with minor injuries Sunday morning, authorities said.

The Hackensack Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at about 8:11 a.m. on 99 Fair Street in the city,officials said in a statement.

“Upon arrival companies were met with heavy smoke and fire conditions on the 2nd floor of the home with fire extending into the attic,” fire officials said. “Companies put several hand lines in service to begin knocking down fire on the 2nd floor and to protect the house next door.”

Fire companies from Englewood and Teaneck assisted in responding to the fire, as well as units from Bogota, Hackensack UMC Basic Life Support, Hackensack police and the city’s building department.

The fire at the Fair Street home was under control in a little over an hour, the Hackensack Fire Department said.

The resident and firefighter hurt in the fire were sent to Hackensack University Medical Center with minor injuries, officials said. Their identities were not disclosed.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Hackensack Fire Prevention Bureau.

The fire department and city officials did not immediately provide more information on the incident.
