A man was transported to the hospital Thursday morning after falling from a cliff in South Knoxville, reports wate.com (http://bit.ly/1ix5Ti4).
A search and rescue for the man started around 4:30 a.m., near the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
The man was at an overlook with a friend taking in the city views when he fell off the side of the cliff.
Crews had a hard time reaching the man and were forced to rappel down a cliff to get to him.
“We were up against the darkness for one and didn’t have enough light,” said Knoxville Fire Department Rescue Squad Captain Cecil Risden. “It’s a long way down there. It was a rough treacherous ravine where it had jagged edges and it was really hard to get to him.”
Authorities say they then loaded the victim into a boat and took him across the river to land.
Officials put the victim in an ambulance and transported him to UT Medical Center for his injuries.
