A recently released report ona 2011 house fire in Washington, D.C.,in which five firefighters were badly burned made several recommendations on training and other fire department issues.
The Washington Timesreports (http://bit.ly/Mo3uTw) several fire companies that responded to the fire in the 800 block of 48th Place Northeast failed to properly execute many basic but critical tasks, including proper set-up at the scene and correct communication, according to the department-issued report. Firefighters ended up on differentradio channels, so information about thequick spread of the firewas not shared with everyone.
Soon after firefighters arrived at the one-story wood-framed, single-family home, part of the roof collapsed, forcing heat and debris on a search crew inside.
The problematic responses highlight the need for regular and continued on-the-job training, officials said.
