一名18岁男子正面临的指控开始fire in Everett that ripped through an abandoned warehouse and garage over the course of several hours and injured a firefighter attempting to put it out.
Officials said Tuesdaythat they believe the Jan. 23 fire was started by Michael Mambrino, who will face charges in Malden District Court of burning a building and causing injury to a firefighter.
Beginning late on the night of Jan. 23 and continuing into the following morning, the fire on Norman Street in Everett completely destroyed the warehouse and significantly damaged an adjacent garage, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services said.
The blaze prompted a joint investigation between Everett’s fire and police departments and the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit of the Massachusetts State Police. Between evidence left after the fire, witness statements and video footage, officials said they were able to identify Mambrino as the suspect.
The abandoned warehouse, a roughly 50 by 200-foot structure, belonged to a trucking company, Everett Fire Chief Scott Dalrymple said the morning after the fire, according tothe Boston Globe. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the entire building was engulfed in flames that would ultimately take hours to extinguish.
Officials worried in the day following the fire that chemicals left in the building may have caused air quality issues in nearby Everett neighborhoods. A hazardous materials team, however, did not find any significant concerns in the air surrounding the warehouse,CBS Boston reported.
