Hyannis (MA) Boy Killed in Dare Fire Identified

The friend of a young boy who was killed in a fire Monday evening said the fire started as a dare, reports wcvb.com.

As the raging fire was tearing through the backyard shed on Hinckley Road in Hyannis, a friend of Savvas Yianasmidis, the 8-year-old boy trapped inside said, he looked back helplessly and was forced back by intense heat and powerful explosions.

“I went to save my friend, but the fire came to my friend so I couldn’t,” a friend of the victim said.

With his mother’s permission, Savvas’ friend recounted the horror and the dare to light paper on fire that he said came from another boy.

“My friend dared me that if I did it he would give me $100,” the boy said. “So I did it.”
