Fire Extinguished at Redwood City (CA) Recycling Facility

A health advisory urging residents to seek shelter and stay inside was lifted Monday morning, as fire crews extinguished the final remnants of a fire at a recycling facility that started Sunday afternoon, reports San Jose Mercury News.

的fire at Sims Metal Management was deemed under control around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night. Crews monitored hot spots on Monday morning and declared the fire out around 8 a.m., said Jim Palisi, fire marshal for the Redwood City/San Carlos Fire Department.

的shelter-in-place health advisory was lifted around 6:20 a.m., Redwood City police said. An odor in the air left over from the fire lingered through Monday morning and could be smelled across the bay in Oakland. No other health advisories were issued after the shelter-in-place warning for southern San Mateo County, Santa Clara County and southern Alameda County were lifted.

No employees or firefighters were injured in the fire, Palisi said.

的fire, which was not located near any residential neighborhoods, required about 50 personnel and equipment required for a two-alarm fire, though only one alarm sounded, Palisi said. Fire crews from throughout San Mateo County helped with the fire, he said.
