A fire burned for hours at a one-story storage facility in Huntington Park Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, reports KTLA 5.
About 80 firefighters from L.A. County and the Vernon Fire Department were battling the fire, located at 5608 Soto St. in Huntington Park.
The metal-clad commercial building was “well involved,” according to fire officials, and thick black smoke could be seen from miles away.
Smoke and fire was showing through the roof when firefighters first arrived, and the roof had partially collapsed, Humberto Agurcia of the county Fire Department said.
Firefighters pulled back into a defensive posture, meaning they were running streams of water onto the building from the outside, according to Agurcia.
The fire was still burning as of 1:30 p.m. Fire Inspector David Dantic said the building held “plenty of fuel,” causing many hot spots.
One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was hospitalized as a precaution, Dantic said. The business was closed at the time the fire broke out and no one else appeared to be injured.
