Federal and local firefighters are battling a wildfire in the Angeles National Forest that began Thursday afternoon and quickly consumed more than 600 acres, reports USA Today.
The fire was in the San Francisquito Canyon area near a reservoir, said John Wagner, spokesman for the Angeles National Forest.
He said it was threatening homes and high-power electricity transmission lines, and that one structure had already burned.
At least 300 firefighters, most from the U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, were battling the fire, assisted by several air tankers.
Wagner said brush was burning across a wide area of difficult terrain in the forest northeast of Los Angeles, complicating efforts to contain the fire.
“It’s very steep there,” he said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
