Andrew Ashcraft was a member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots–a team of hotshot firefighters who丧生fighting a fast-moving Arizona wildfire on June 30. The Yarnell Hill Fire marked the highest death toll for American firefighters since September 11, 2001. Now, weeks after his death, Andrew’s family is fighting for benefits they say he earned over his three-year career.
The City of Prescott has pushed back on Juliann’s claims, saying that Andrew was a seasonal employee and therefore not entitled to lifetime salaries and health benefits. Juliann says the distinction is meaningless because Andrew was working full time hours at the time of his death.
