Chief 1 arrived on the scene and reported an vacant apartment building involved and reported squatters trapped in the building. Chief 1 then requested a second alarm. Companies stretched and preformed search and rescue and fire attack.
Upon clearing the building of occupants, and with fire conditions not improving and possible structural compromise, Chief 1 ordered all companies out of the building and switched to defensive operations. Ladder 20 and Ladder 7 were put into position for water tower operations.
Firefightersremoved three victims from the building. Companies operated for four hours to bring this fire under control.
