Three Cleveland (OH) firefighters were hit by a carearly Sunday morning while responding to a reported motor vehicle crash on a highway.
The three unidentified firefighters had pulled their fire apparatus, with emergency lights flashing, behind a vehicle parked in a shoulder next to a high-speed lane. The firefighters exited the engine, learned it was not a MVC but rather an abandoned vehicle, and were walking back to the rig when they were struck by a car that reportedly traveled into the high-speed shoulder.
The firefighters and the driver of the car were transported to a local medical center. One firefighter suffered severe leg injuries, while another suffered broken ribs. The third was treated and released, as was the driver of the car, who was later arrested by police.
