An off-duty Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighter/paramedic helped save a man’s life earlier this month thanks to a smartphone app, reports KOIN 6.
The app called PulsePoint is connected to 911 and alerts people trained in CPR to emergencies near their location.
While Scott Brawner was working out at a local health club on May 9, the app alerted him to a man who had gone into cardiac arrest in the parking lot just outside the gym.
“I didn’t really think about doing it. It just happened that way, and I just wish that if you have this app, or if you just have the ability to help your neighbor, don’t even think about it — just do the right thing. It makes such a big difference in everybody’s life,” said Brawner.
The man Brawner helped save was 57-year-old Drew Basse from Milwaukie. The two had the opportunity to meet at Adventist Medical Center in Portland on May 17.
