There, units found fire in the basement and two residents trapped in the building. Firefighters were able to rescue the two occupants but during the firefight Torres transmitted aMaydaycall. Rescuers found Torres along with his officer in charge, Fire Lieutenant Rankins. Both members were unconscious. Rankins was critically injured and Torres would not survive. To honor Firefighter Torres, this month’s skill-drill is to prepare for an out of air emergency. We will practice two possible solutions to out-of-air emergencies.
- Buddy breathing. Most modern self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) have added technology to buddy breath. Have members don full personal protective equipment with SCBA. Get a partner and practice making the buddy-breathing connection. Raise the stakes by taking away vision and/or introducing empty cylinders.
- Filter breathing.如果您在IDLH-Atmosphere内部用完了空气，则可以选择通过防护罩过滤呼吸。断开面膜安装的调节器后，将引擎盖向上和脸部的开口上方。
Please get out and practice these skills/drills. We don’t want the first time you experience an out-of-air emergency to be in an IDLH-atmosphere.
