The City of Harrison is mourning the loss of one of its bravest.
Vincent Doffont, 37, died suddenly Saturday after suffering an apparent medical episode following a training exercise, fire officials said.
The Harrison Fire Department announced his death Sundayin a social media post。He’d served since 2017.
Prior to that, Doffont served as a patrolman on the Harrison Police Department, as a Hudson County sheriff’s officer and served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a rifleman.
“FirefighterVincent Doffont was definitely one of a kind and we will miss him,” said Harrison Fire Department Deputy Chief Henry Richard. “He had a carefree, give you the shirt off his back way about him that everyone around him gravitated to.”
Doffont had returned to Harrison’s fire headquarters on Sussex Street Saturday afternoon from a training exercise at another building in the city in which in he assisted newer members with structural roof venting, Richard said.
While in the shower, at about 2:30 p.m., members on duty “heard rustling around and knew something was not right,” Richard said. “They found him unconscious. He had suffered some type of medical episode.”
Doffont was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he was pronounced dead, Richard said.

Three of his uncles were also Harrison firefighters, Richard said.
Doffont, who was married, has a son and a daughter.
“He was involved in their sports. He was a good dad and a coach. He always talked about their activities” Richard said, adding that Doffont worked out and ran. “He was in good shape.”
Doffont played football, wrestling and track at St. Mary’s High School in Rutherford and was衔接to their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. He went on to Montclair State University where he was a踢球者on their football team.
