Apr. 7—The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a house fire that claimed the life of an Aiken (SC) woman.

Around 11:13 p.m. Wednesday, Aiken Department of Public Safety fire crews responded to a house fire at a home in the 200 block of Reid Drive in a neighborhood behind Citizens Park, according to a release from Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

“After the fire was extinguished, the body of a female was found near the front door of the home,” according to the release.

The victim has been identified as 75-year-old Alease Oliphant, the homeowner, Ables said in the release.
