Firefighters from eight communities battled a fatal late-night fire in Whately, Massachusetts.
Thefarmhouse firekilled a 94-year-old woman and her daughter, according to the Associated Press (http://abcn.ws/10EmB2a). Located near Springfield, the town of Whately has approximately 1,500 residents.
State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and Chief John Hannum said the fire started beneath an oldfireplace有德teriorated and allowed heat and possibly sparks to escape.
