Firefightersrescuedan unresponsive dog but could not save another after an Indianapolis house fire.
Heavy fire consumed the animals’ home and they huddled together in a rear bedroom. Firefighters located the dogs within minutes of making entry after callers to 911 reported the dogs were still inside.
Heavy fire pushed from the front porch and communicated to a house to the north. That home sustained exterior damage only.
Heat and humidity took its toll on crews as they battled the heavy blaze that extended from the first floor to the attic. One firefighter was treated on scene for heat-related symptoms.
The home sustained significant damage. Damage is estimated at $100,000 for main house and $5,000 for exposure dwelling. The two women that live in the home told firefighters that they left the residence about 45 minutes prior and they believe a discarded cigarette on the porch was to blame.
