D.C. Fire Department Considers Adjusting EMS Staffing

TheD.C. Fire Departmentis considering having more ambulances available during peak times and reducing staffing during slower overnight hours. The peak hours commence roughly with the district’s morning rush hour.

The Washington Postreports that (http://wapo.st/QaFSd6) D.C.Fire ChiefKenneth B. Ellerbe is expected to announce the changes today.

A fire department spokesman said that the city’s fleet of 14 paramedic units, which have the most advanced lifesaving equipment and best-trained personnel, would be pulled from service from about 1 to 7 a.m. under a proposal that would require D.C. Council approval.
