San Francisco 911 System in State of Emergency, Report Says

San Francisco’s 911 system, ambulances, and emergency rooms are understaffed and under strain, according to a new report.

A report from theSan Francisco Chroniclehighlighted a number of recent cases that illustrate the crisis, including a recent incident in which firefighters spent 20 minutes giving an unconscious man CPR before medics drove him away. This instance and others raise the questions about the city’s response capabilities in large and small-scale emergencies.

According to the report, emergency workers say there’s a lack of investment in the people and equipment necessary for adequate responses. The fire department is reportedly contending with broken-down ambulances and serious staffing shortages.
