Fire photographerTod Sudmeiershared some photos of firefighters operating at the Ranch Fire, a wildfire part of the Mendocino Complex burning in Northern California.

According to the state’s Web site, the Ranch Fire has increased acreage bebause of successful firing operations in the northeastern areas of the fire. Crews continue to reinforce containment lines and mop up throughout the north and northeastern portions of the fire area. There are mandatory evacuations in effect for Glenn and Colusa counties.

Numerous firefighting airtankers from throughout the Western United States are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow, with more than 3,000 firefighters operating at the scene.

The Ranch Fire and River Fire together comprise the Mendocino Complex, which has beendeemed the largest wildland fire in the history of California.
