Work Hours Reduced in Connecticut
Firemen in two Connecticut cities. New Haven and Danbury, have bad their work week cut to six days, or a total of 70 hours. At Danbury the Board of Aldermen approved the new setup on Aug. 7, bringing to an end a persistent battle by the firefighters to reduce a heave working schedule. The new schedule will go into effect in September with the addition of two new men to eliminate the manpower shortage. Adoption of the new work week will supplant the present 78-hour weekly schedule.
The new schedule, similar to that in Danbury, will go into effect in New Haven on Sept. 1. Fire Chief Paul P. Heinz, who has favored the plan for some time, said it will affect all members of the firefighting force up to and including the grade of battalion chief.
