Women Put Their Lives on the Line As Active, Dedicated Volunteers

At 12:48 a.m. on a raw Friday, February 7, 1975, in suburban Warminster, Pa., fire tones blared over home alerts. The dispatcher announced, “smoke coming from the roof of The Old Country Shopping Village.”

Carol Rambo, a 20-year-old, 5-foot 10-inch, single, licensed practical nurse, leaped out of bed. Clad in a fisherman’s knit sweater, slacks and shoes, she raced her car with blue light and four-ways flashing to Battalion 2. Hurriedly putting on her fire gear, she made the first truck.
