Williamsport Visited by Fire and Flood

Recent floods, which caused such widespread damage in various sections of Pennsylvania, were directly responsible for a fire which consumed six buildings and caused a loss of $160,000 in Williamsport, Pa.

In front of one of the flooded buildings were two curb gasoline pumps, side by side. The strong waters knocked over one of the pumps, and caused water to enter the gasoline tank. Vapor and gasoline were forced out of the vent pump which was attached to the building eleven feet above the ground. The air-mixed vapor exploded.
