Seven Guests of Hotel Might Not Have Died Had Basic Regulations Been Followed for Preventing Fire and Preserving Life

TRAPPED within the walls of the twenty-four-year-old Van Deusen Inn, a family hotel located at 44 Court Street, Westfield, Mass., seven permanent guests lost their lives when fire which is believed to have been smoldering for some time, suddenly burst through the walls and ceilings. It was of such intensity that escape was suddenly cut off and the victims perished in the flames. Seven occupants were also so seriously burned that they required hospital attention.
