Which Is the Better Extinguisher?
A fire department chief in a western city writes to FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING for the following information.
“Will you kindly let me know which of the two small fire extinguishers now on the market is best adapted for use on motor cars? I notice that one of these machines is worked like a squirt gun, being pumped with one hand while it is directed with the other. In testing I found it difficult to get a straight stream on a blaze on account of having to pump it with one hand. Now, what I want to know is, whether the other machine that is operated by compressed air is not better suited for our purpose? I found that there was no difficulty in directing and testing straight streams from this appliance while holding it in position with both hands. On this point I consider the pressure extinguisher has a great advantage over the squirt gun, but would like to have your opinion upon it before making a final decision.
