West Metro (CO) Fire Facing Cuts After Tax Measure Defeated

The West Metro (CO) Fire District is facing the prospect of cuts and increasing response times after the narrow defeat of a tax increase in a May 6 vote.

Fire Chief Don Lombardi said response times will be longer and fewer personnel will be on scene of emergencies, according to theDenver Post(http://bit.ly/1lInvoT). Chief Lombardi said the district will do a cost-benefit analysis of where to cut services, but that all residents will be impacted by the cuts.

The district provides service to 247,648 people in Lakewood and Morrison, parts of Golden and Wheat Ridge, parts of unincorporated Jefferson County, and Roxborough and Waterton Canyon in Douglas County. A record number of people turned out to vote on the measure, which was defeated by only 860 votes.
