WATERWORKS PROBE AT CINCINNATI.
The Drake committee appointed to probe the new waterworks at Cincinnati is about to employ an expert engineer and expert accountants to investigate the doings of the waterworks commissioners in the construction of the new waterworks which was begun in 1897. The experts will he Major Whinnery, of New York; the accountants, Messrs, Delwitte, Plender. Griffiths & Co., of the Union Trust building. The water commissioners. in spite of a court decision that the Drake committee has no legal standing, has determined to do all that is in Its power to assist it and the experts in their investigations.
The Portsmouth. X IT., municipal authorities have determined to adopt a course of very false economy. They have voted to get rid of the full paid firemen at the central station and abolish the quick hitch in every station.
