WATER SUPPLY ITEMS.

With characteristic Western promptness Wallace Ferguson, proprietor of the water-works at Oakdale, Cal,, the pumping station of which was, with a connecting planing mill, burned on Monday of last week, contracted at once for the rebuilding of the structure. The pumps and machinery were not badly damaged, and were put in working order in a few hours after the fire. Some little curiosity is felt as to whether the new pumping station is to be rebuilt in wood or brick, and if it is to be again placed under the same roof with a planing mill.

The Phoenix Lumber Company of Houston, Tex., has sued the Houston Water-works Company for $100,000 damages. It will be remembered that recently the mills and much of the lumber of the rhuenix Company were burned. It is charged that this was due to the poor service and neglect of the water company ; hence the suit, the result of which will be awaited with considerable interest.
