The Kansas City Star contains this interesting bit of news : When the city takes possession of the water works plant it will inaugurate the change with a new superintendent and a new assessor and collector of water rates. The superintendent will be W. L. Cameron, formerly superintendent of the Memphis water works, At a meeting of the council the water commissioners nominated, the mayor approved and the upper house confirmed Mr. Cameron for superintendent of water works. Mr. Cameron is at present an employee of the company. He has been a resident of Kansas City for nearly three years and for two years has tieen in the employ of Major B. F. Jones, whom he will succeed. He is an expert water works man and was superintendent for nearly twenty years of the water works plant of Memphis, Tenn., which plant was projected by him. The new superintendent is a man 50 years of age. Nearly half his life has been spent in active work in the operating departments of water works systems. Mr. Cameron’s name was first brought to the attention of the board of public works 1 hursday. He was highly recommended and on Friday the board called Mr. Cameron before it. His answers to the many questions propounded were satisfactory and his theories as to how the city should manage the plant were also in line with the opinions held by the individual members So Mr. Cameron was slated for the place, lie states emphatically that he told the board he did not want his name considered as long as either-Major Jones or C. A. Jones, assistant superintendent, were candidates for the place or were being considered by the board. The position pays $3,000 a year.
