WATER RESOURCES OF MISSISSIPPI.

WATER RESOURCES OF MISSISSIPPI.

A paper describing the underground water resources of Mississippi by State Geologists A. F. Crider and L. C. Johnson, has just been issued by the United States geological survey as water supply paper No. 159. The underground waters of Mississippi are derived from two diverse sources. The salt water encountered in some of the deeper wells, in all probability, represents ocean waters that have been retained since the accumulation of the sedimentary rocks beneath the sea, while the fresh waters in all of the shallow wells and in a targe proportion of the deep wells are derived from the rainfall.
