WATER RATES

WATER RATES

The water department report of Belmont, Mass., for the year 1916 says: "The percentage of services metered is 100. It appearing to the commissioners that the department could be run with a slightly decreased revenue, they voted in September to abolish the charge for meter rentals. This will reduce the bill of each water taker by at least $1 per year, and will have the effect of lowering the income of the department by about $1,600.

A petition for a rehearing of its case has been filed by the Ohio Valley Water Company with the Public Service Commission asking for modifications of the order of the commirsion and for ts stay and annulment. A hearing will be held in Harrisburg. The case was heard before the commission over a period of a year and an order was made reducing the rates of the company from 40 cents to 12 cents per 1,000 gallons along with the fixed charge, based on the size of the connection with the street main.
