Water Engineer Clemitt, of Baltimore, Md., gave out a statement, in which he said that the water situation in the city had materially improved. He said that the city reservoirs had commenced to rise again to their normal height and that he believed this condition to be the result of the numerous rains in Pennsylvania and along the watersheds. According to this statement there were 172,000,000 gallons less on storage July 2 of this year than on the same day of last year, when the total amount on storage was 1.709,000.000 gallons. This shortage is explained by the fact that in July, 1913, the rainfall was 10.24 inches, while for the month this year it was only 3.91 inches.
