WATER BOARD POLITICS IN DETROIT.

At a meeting of the board of water commissioners of Detroit, Mich , held on August 10, a resolution was adopted doing away with the office of general superintendent after September 1, and “ assigning ” L. Case to duty as acting secretary, during the absence of the secretary, at $200 per month.

In the editorial page of this issue of FIRE AND WATER will be seen an editorial from the Detroit Journal, which shows the true inwardness of this step, against which every paper in the city of whatever party, has vehemently protested. For nearly ten years Mr. Case has been the general superintendent of the Detroit water works, and through his endeavors the quantity of water pumped last year was less than that of the year before his appointment, while over 100,000 more people were supplied. Water rates have been reduced, in consequence, to about one-third of what they were—and at this date are lower than in any other American city. Yet Superintendent Case has been got rid of—for whom?
