Volunteers Rated Highly By Academy’s No. 2 Man
The volunteer fire service rates a top priority with Lyle Goodrich, deputy superintendent of the National Fire Academy. Whether he is talking about the development of a fire service management course or how to improve fire service training, he constantly refers to the needs of the volunteers.
His awareness of the vast majority of volunteers in the fire service throughout the United States comes naturally from his professional experience. Before going to the National Academy, Goodrich had been director of fire service training in the State of Washington since 1957. There he managed a training program with an annual enrollment of more than 8500 students, mostly volunteers.
