Volunteer Firefighter Operates Out of Rural WA Home

For many firefighters, the firehouse is ahomeaway from home. For Firefighter Frank Billington, thefirehouse is his home.

Billington, 40, a firefighter with East County (WA) Fire & Rescue, lives and responds out of a rural residence that doubles as afire stationin the community of Bear Prairie, according to a report from The Columbian (http://bit.ly/1azNs4I). Billington's wife and children also reside at "Fort Billington," an affectionate name for the home/firehouse.

In exchange for his services, Billington and his family live rent-free at the one-manfire station. Billington responds in a 15-foot mini-pumper equipped with a 400-gallon water tank, 700 feet of hose, and a ladder; he also provides emergency medical services, although his vehicle isn't equipped to transport patients.
