NORFOLK, VA –The Norfolk Fire Departmentresponded to a two-alarm fire at approximately 8 a.m. at a townhouse in the 700 block of Stanwix Square in Stoney Point according toThe Virginian-Pilot. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries.
Emergency dispatchers from Virginia Beach and Chesapeake alerted Norfolk Firefighters of the fire due to the incident location near the Norfolk city line. Firefighters arrived to find a utility building at the rear of the property engulfed in flames that eventually spread to the townhouse. A fire wall located on one side of the home kept the flames from spreading.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman, Jack Goldhorn, reported that the fire engulfed one townhouse and damage a second home on the opposite side of the end of the fire wall. Fire crews were able to control the fire within 20 minutes. Residents in neighboring homes assisted those families displaced by the fire.
