Unlined Hose Banned

Unlined Hose Banned

All unlined hose for fire fighting aboard vessels over 65 feet long will be banned after January 1, 1980, the United States Coast Guard has ruled. In revised regulations published in the Federal Register September 30, rubber-lined hose meeting federal specification ZZ-H-451E or bearing an Underwriters’ Laboratories label must be used. Replacement hose bought after January 1, 1977, will have to conform to the new regulations.

Passenger vessels of 65 feet or under may use either fire hose or garden hose with a 5/8-inch minimum diameter.
