UNDERGROUND WATERS IN CONNECTICUT
In connection with the general plan for hydrologic work, or that relating to underground waters, the United States Geological Survey will undertake systematic study of underground waters in Connecticut. The investigation is in charge of Dr. Herbert E. Gregory, of Yale university, who for several years past has been engaged in a study of the geology of the State. Dr. Gregory has already begun the work by issuing circular requests for special information, and it is hoped that the cooperation of the citizens of Connecticut will be enlisted to obtain data regarding the location and character of the wells, deep borings, flowing springs, mineral waters, etc. Information of this sort sent to Dr. Gregory will aid materially in carrying on the work. After the collection of data, field work will be undertaken in areas that promise the most important results, and a study will be made of the geologic structure and texture of the water-bear ing beds. Such results as prove to he of general value will be published in bulletins or papers that will be distributed free. The object of this systematic investigation is to obtain such a knowledge of the water supply of the State as will afford practical suggestions for increasing or improving it. and will aid those districts that have insufficient water for domestic use.
