Two Killed in Plant Blast

A “flash” fire, caused by an explosion, roared through the upper floors of the five-story plant of the Advance Cabinet Company, manufacturers of radio cabinets, at 2141 Iowa Street, Chicago, and took the lives of two workmen before firemen, under the personal direction of Fire Commissioner Michael J. Corrigan and First Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Anthony J. Mullaney could bring it under control.

A still alarm shortly before noon on August 9 was followed by Box 554 a minute later. Within twenty-one minutes the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th alarms and a special call for five engines had been sounded. Twenty-seven pumpers, three trucks, three squads, two water towers, three high pressure wagons and two light wagons responded to the multiple alarms.
