TRENTON FIRE DEPARTMENT.

Among the best equipped and regulated fire department must be classed that of Trenton, N. J. The work commenced some years ago to bring the department to a high state of efficiency has resulted in attaining that object; the equipment and discipline of the service being on a par with the best fire organizations in the country. For such a large department the annual expenses $71,235 is a very reasonable figure; only $56,869 of that amount being expended in salaries. There are seventy-two full paid men In the department as follows: One chief of department, two assistant chiefs of department, nine captains of companies, six engineers of companies, six stokers of companies, nine drivers of companies, two tillermen of trucks, ten ladderinen, twenty-six hosemen, one extra engineer.;

The apparatus consists of six engines, two hosecarriages, four hose-wagons, two aerial trucks, one double (sixty-gallon) chemical engine, two extra engines, two extra hose-carriages, one chiefs’ w'agon, one assistant chiefs’ wagon, eight exercise wagous.
