JACKSONVILLE’S recent conflagration developed the fact that some of the alleged fireproof safes were anything but what was claimed. Records, books, and papers taken from some of the cheaper safes were found to be so badly charred as to be valueless.
JOHN REDELL, chief of the Omaha fire department, has been removed by the mayor under the powers granted him by a decision of court. Assistant Chief Salter is now chief, and Captain Martin Dineen, assistant chief. The fight on Redell has been very bitter.
