TOPICS OF THE DAY
EVERY preparation for the firemen’s carnival at Boston, March 4, is being made, and no doubt the occasion will be the largest of the kind ever given in this country. Our correspondent, “ Hydrant Chuck,” as on all former occasions, will “dish up” the proceedings in full, and in due time the readers of THE JOURNAL will know how the big ball went off.
WE omitted to note the fact last week that the fire commissioners had appointed F. D’Oench as superintendent of the building bureau in place of Mr. Esterbrook, whose recent resignation we commented on. The new superintendent is both a civil engineer and a practical architect, who is indorsed in the highest terms by a number of architects of the city.
