EXPERIMENTS with underground cables are being made at Cleveland, O. The city has contracted for 6000 feet of single wire cable for the fire alarm telegraph system, which will be laid three and one-half feet under ground in a sewer pipe six inches in diameter.
NOT very long since we noted the amusing but effective way in which Youngstown, O., defeated the attempt of a railroad company to enter the town, by driving off the laborers with streams from the fire engines. It is now announced that the company has brought suit against the city council and other officials to the number of twenty-six, laying its damages at $10,000.
